The First Branch of the Southern India Regional Council of ICAI in Kerala, the Ernakulam Branch, was set up on 1st December 1967. It is the largest Branch in the State with more than 1500 members and more than 5000 students. It has the privilege of being the first Branch of the Institute to construct its own building which was inaugurated in August 1986. The Ernakulam Branch of Institute of Chartered Accountants of India, (ICAI) has been adjudged as “ALL INDIA BEST BRANCH OF ICAI for the year 2011”. The coveted Award was received by CA. Saji Mathew, Chairman of Ernakulam branch along with the Managing Committee Members of the Ernakulam branch from the Chief Guest Dr. M. Veerappa Moily, Hon’ble Union Minister of Corporate Affairs at the 62nd Annual Function of ICAI organised at “The Ashoka Hotel, Chanakyapuri, New Delhi.
The award is adjudged based on various factors including the quality and number of programs organised for the Continuing learning of the professionals at the Branch, Provision of National level faculties and facilities for CA Students and their education, Providing the best possible Infrastructure, Conducting Public Awareness Programs, Investor Awareness Programs, Budget Discussions, Comments on Pre and Post Budget Suggestions, Exposure Drafts, Involvement in taking up Social causes etc. The students wing at Ernakulam Branch- SICASA, Ernakulam - also bagged the All India Best Student Association Award 2011. It was received by CA. Mathew Joseph, Chairman SICASA, Ernakulam in the same Annual function of ICAI .
The Hon’ble President of ICAI CA. G. Ramaswamy and the Hon. Vice President CA. Jayadeep N Shah also addressed the function attended by CAs from all over the country. . In the said function ICAI also honoured Padmasree CA. Y H Malegam and Padmasree CA T N Manoharan for having received the honour from the Govt of India from CA fraternity.
