“Goodness and hard work are rewarded with respect. For every disciplined effort there is a multiple reward”. We are greatly delighted and pleased that our branch- Ernakulam Branch of SIRC of ICAI has been honoured with the All India Best Branch Award 2011 and SICASA,Ernakulam with the All India Best Student Association Award 2011. The awards were received in the ICAI Annual function held in New Delhi. It is an honour for all of us to be adjudged as the All India Best Branch. We thank you for your encouragement & guidance and we look forward to your continued support in all our endeavours. We place on record our gratitude to our President CA.G.Ramaswamy,Vice-President CA.Jayadeep Shah, Central Council Members, SIRC Chairman CA.Shanmukha Sundaram, Regional Council Members and in particular our ex- officio members CA.Babu Abraham Kallivayalil & CA.V.X.Jose, and officials of ICAI for their unstinted support in all our activities. This was made possible due to the great team work and efforts of Ernakulam Branch Managing Committee and staff members. We thank the staff members of the Ernakulam branch for their tireless efforts and whole-hearted commitment in ensuring that we scale greater heights. This being my last communication to you from the desk of Chairman of your Branch , I should say that journey was challenging. However I thoroughly enjoyed the challenge, and I’m sure you would agree that we have tried our best in the past year to put in the efforts in the best interests of our profession. Yes, today the rewards and benefits are enjoyed by all of us. It is always good to end on a high note and the Almighty has been gracious to award our Branch and our SICASA the best. Though this is my last message from the desk of Chairman of Ernakulam Branch of SIRC of ICAI , but I believe we will keep meeting again and again. When I assumed the Chairman’s office, I was quite clear about my actions and determined about their execution. There was a plan and there has to be a plan. It is time for our members, students, employees and all other stakeholders to observe the developments and milestones that has been recorded in the past one year. Opportunities to work in the interest of profession will always be there. I have firm belief in a sustainable change and development not only in our profession but in our nation too. I consider it my privilege to acknowledge that our profession has had a tremendous growth since its inception. I feel proud to accept that, continuing with the trend, our Branch have reached many new heights, set new Benchmarks and touched many new grounds in the year. Branch Activities The month of January 2012 witnessed many useful programms as usual. CPE seminar on Service Tax was held on 16th January in which CA. Parag Mehta from Mumbai was the speaker. Also a CPE CHAIN SEMINAR was organized from 17.01.2012 to 20.01.2012. CA. P. T. Joy spoke on ‘Tax Accounting Standards’, CA. Jacob Kovoor on ‘Personal Finance Management for CA’s’ and CA. Anand A. S on ‘TDS e-Filing’. An Investor Awareness Programme was held at the Renai Cochin, Palarivattom on 27th January 12 in which learned speakers CA. T S Anantharaman, and CA. P V Hariharan spoke . Republic day was celebrated with Flag hoisting, National anthem and distribution of sweets. Various Technical sessions were held for Certificate Course on International Taxation on 14, 15, 21, 22,28 and 29 January. Faculties included CA. R. B. Krishnan, Bangalore, CA. Rishi Harlalka, Bangalore and CA. P.V.S. S. Prasad from Hyderabad. We had also three CPE Teleconferences, two Study Circle Meetings last month. In the ICAI International Conference on Accountancy Profession held at Chennai Trade Centre on 6th to 8th January 2012 our branch was represented by CA. Saji Mathew, Chairman, and his team of Managing Committee members along with many other members from Ernakulam Branch. SICASA Cricket Tournament was conducted at Ambedkar Stadium, Kochi on 7th & 8th of the month. Also an Educational tour was organized by SICASA Ernakulam . November Exams Results Result of the November exams is quite encouraging. Congrats to all the students who have passed. For those who have completed the Finals a big welcome to the esteemed profession! The heavy rush for admissions to GMCS batches itself is a good sign that many new young blood is entering our profession which is a good sign. In my term as Chairman, our Branch has organized 10 GMCS batches which is a record in the history of the branch and currently the 58th Batch is in progress and the branch has crossed the 50th Batch milestone in the process. Academic upfront Coaching Classes for IPCC May 2012 Exams are at the finishing point and the Coaching Classes for IPCC November 2012 is starting on 6th February. 16th Batch of Orientation Programme was over on 14th January. ITT batches 83 & 84 started on 16th are in progress. 57th batch of GMCS started on 23.01.2012 Conclusion As my term as the Chairman of the Ernakulam branch is coming to an end, my mind is overwhelmed with feelings of gratitude to you all. We can proudly say that we had an eventful year for the branch. Without your cooperation, timely help and words of guidance, it would have been near impossible to preside over and organize the various activities of a busy branch like ours. May I place my sincere thanks for the co-operation of my colleagues in the Managing Committee, to all the Members of Ernakulam branch especially our seniors, past chairmen, resource persons and faculty and the dedicated staff of the branch and for all their support May I wish the new Chairman CA. P P Mathukutty and his team of office bearers the very best and wishing them all success in the pursuit to new benchmarks and excellence.
