At the outset, let me sincerely thank all of you for your active participation in our activities. In the past few months,we have been organizing seminars and other programmes of academic interest and the feedback has been very encouraging. In my opinion, the success of any programme should be assessed by the number of people who are benefited by it. We will continue to focus on organizing programmes which are of utmost relevance to our members.
During the month, two full day seminars were organized by the branch. The seminar on issues in indirect taxes was held on 18th May and the sessions were addressed by eminent faculty from various parts of the country.Following the seminar,a vision committee meeting was organized, with central council member CA.Madhukar.N.Hiregange chairing the session.More than 25 members from practice and industry attended the meeting and gave their suggestions on the steps to be taken by the central council of ICAI to ensure that we continue to be the premier accounting body in the country. During the course of the deliberations it was evident that the maximum suggestions were regarding the course curriculum for students and the confusion created due to the various changes in recent years. Several suggestions have been received regarding the conduct of classes by the branch and these are being actively followed up by the academic affairs committee under the leadership of CA.R.Balagopal. The academic affairs committee meetings have been are being regularly organized and our focus has been to ensure that the coaching classes conducted by us are comparable to the best in the country.
On 22nd May,the National Conference on Tax Laws, organized jointly by the Direct Taxes Committee of ICAI and SIRC,was hosted by our branch. The seminar was addressed by the Vice-President CA.G.Ramaswamy,CA.R.Bupathy,CA.Jayant Gokhale,Dr.Girish Ahuja and CA.A.S.Narayana Moorthy. The Vice President spoke about the importance of compliance with the various laws and urged us to respond positively to the various challenges faced by the profession.
The website of the branch has been thoroughly revamped and hereafter, all the seminar materials and newsletters can be downloaded from the website. An interactive forum has been created wherein the members can discuss various topics of contemporary relevance. The efforts of the website committee chairperson CA.Minu Mathew to revamp the website has been commendable. We have also decided to give our library a thorough facelift. The library committee headed by CA.Jayeme.K.P has given a detailed proposal for redesigning our library and we are aiming to complete the renovation by the last week of July.
We are proposing to organise various academic and extra-curricular programmes from June 26th to July 1st in connection with the CA Day celebrations. The programme committee chairman CA.M.O.Poulose is co-ordinating these activities and I would request your whole-hearted support in this regard.
The managing committee members value your views and suggestions on the activities on the branch. So, please feel free to communicate with us. Your ideas and views maybe mailed at vivekgovind@varmaandvarma.com.
Thank You.
Yours Sincerely,
CA.Vivek Krishna Govind
