Dear Professional Colleagues,
Don’t forget that every asset is a liability and every job is a responsibility. Assets cannot be made without liabilities and jobs cannot be held without responsibilities.
I hope the members are relaxed a bit after the hectic tax audit works. Due to tax audit season there were only very limited number of programmes in our branch during the month of September. Onam Celebrations conducted was celebrated by our branch jointly with the students’ association was a great success. “Pookkalam” competition and cultural programmes were organized during the occasion and I take this opportunity to congratulate the winners of various competitions held on that occasion.
The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India has undertaken the initiative to celebrate Teacher’s Day this year. The occasion is a good opportunity for articles to acknowledge their principals who are not only their guides but also their teachers in the true sense of the word. Highlighting the importance of this day for the organization, CA, Ved Jain, Our President expressed, “Education gets lost but learning stays with us forever. The principal and article relationship is that of a mentor and disciple and hence one should respect and cherish it. Teacher’s Day is an important day for every learning institute and we are proud to celebrate this day by showing gratitude towards our principals. The principals share with their articles not only factual information and knowledge but also make them aware of the practical aspects of life by sharing with them their own real life experiences”. Ernakulam branch has also celebrated this occasion on 5th September, 2008 and spread message and the importance of the day to our members and students.
The campus placement programme of our branch held on 2nd September was a great success and the feed back we received from the participants are quite encouraging. A new batch of CPT coaching class was inaugurated on 16th September and this time also we got record number of registrations. The efforts taken by of our Academic Affairs Committee is really reflected in the response from the students who are attending our coaching classes. On 4th September, 2008 we have organized an evening meeting on “Set off and Carried forward Losses” and the speaker for the session was CA. P.T.Joy.
As part of Diamond Jubilee Celebrations this year, ICAI has decided to organise a National Debate Competition for students of classes XI and XII in different parts of the country and our branch is also organizing a programme at Ernakulam Branch.
We are very happy to announce that the Board of Studies of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India is organizing a National Convention of students in Ernakulam jointly with the Ernakulam branch of the SICASA on 5th and 6th of December, 2008. I request the members and students to actively involve themselves in this programme and provide maximum help and support to make this event a memorable one. After a long-gap Ernakulam branch is hoisting a residential workshop at Munnar on 12th, 13th and 14th of December 2008. The topic of the residential programme is INTERNATIONAL FINANCIAL REPORTING STANDARDS (IFRS) and CODE OF ETHICS and the programme is organised by Continuing Professional Education Committee of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India. Details of the programme are reported elsewhere in this news letter.
May the festive season ahead be lit with happiness and success.
With warm regards
CA. Sajeev P.G.
